We Can Talk About Marijuana

Perhaps the biggest injustice in the US War on Drugs is the inclusion of cannabis, or marijuana, in that “war”. Because of the this, there is a stigma attached to marijuana and anyone who is known to use it. Michael Phelps has lost his Kellogg’s endorsement over one picture of himself taking a bong hit. And if you don’t react with shock and disapproval over the idea of smoking pot, then you risk being labeled a druggie, a loser hippie, or even in favor of the use of hard drugs.

What would truly shock many people, however, are the facts about cannabis that most people are unaware of. [Read more...]

Can you See the Star of Bethlehem ?

Star of Bethlehem

“Where is the one born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east …”

Is it possible to see the star of Bethlehem today? To this day, there is no definite explanation for the star of Bethlehem. According to mainstream Christianity, this star was God’s way of identifying the birth of His son. Jehovah’s Witnesses might tell you that it was Satan’s attempt to kill the child Jesus.

Was the star of Bethlehem a comet? A constellation? A conjunction of planets? [Read more...]

Do Binaural Beats Affect Kundalini Energy?

Yogis and mystics spend years meditating and performing rituals and exercises in order to gain spiritual insights and achieve enlightenment. People have seen the effects of these practices, causing scientific researchers to try to explain spiritual phenomena through experiments and measurements. One interesting concept is the understanding of binaural beats and its effect on the human brain. Some even think that binaural beats can train the brain to automatically enter a state that’s identical to that achieved by experienced meditators. Is there anything to it? [Read more...]

Snatam Kaur’s Beautiful Mul Mantra

Start with a classical guitar set to an up beat with a European Spanish feel, then add words of the spiritual ideals from the Sikh faith sung by the angelic voice of Snatam Kaur, and you have her rendition of the Mul Mantra .

This is sung at a faster pace than other favorites of mine, and it always seems to bring me back to the performance I saw two years ago. Not that she sang it then, but in that performance she took a break from singing and engaged the audience in some kundalini yoga exercises. This song reminds me of the pace of the exercises, and I can imagine taking complete in-and-out breaths with each beat of the song.

I mentioned that these were words of the Sikh faith, but they really reflect basic truths underlying all spirituality.

The Creator is One
Truth, Name
Doer of Everything
Fearless
Revengeless
Undying
Unborn
Self-Illumined
Guru’s Grace
In the beginning: Truth
Throughout the ages: Truth
Even now: Truth
Nanak says Truth shall exist forever.

Here’s a Youtube video of corresponding inspirational images set to Snatam Kaur’s Mul Mantra.

How Michael Phelps won Eight Gold Medals

Michael PhelpsThe world witnessed Michael Phelps winning 8 gold medals at the Summer Olympics 2008; beating Mark Spitz’s gold medal count and establishing a new world’s record. Most people consider winning an Olympic event to be the ultimate achievement of athletic ability. While it can’t be denied that natural ability as well as dedication and hard work were involved here, I believe that what happened was much more than that. I believe that we just saw the universe smiling on Michael Phelps to grant him his dream. To me, there is no other explanation. [Read more...]
